Friendship - Electric Tender

The 6m electric launch "Friendship" was built for the tropical waters of Darwin's Cullen Bay to serve as a tender on the marina. Based on David Payne's "Cinema" launch design but built using lightweight epoxy/foam sandwich construction, the "Friendship" seats 8, has a self-draining cockpit, and teak deck, seats and cockpit console.

Friendship's electric motor is a Bellmann SilentProp 3.5kw (10hp) AC system, imported from Holland. The A-synchronous drive system has been designed for applications in which reliability under all circumstances is essential. The modern electric motor delivers high torque, is water resistant (IP55), maintenance free and exceptionally quiet. The graphical digital display gives all-important information such as battery condition, remaining running time, rpm and the power consumption.

On board power is provided by 8 x 6V AGM 225Ah batteries for the motor and one 75Ah battery for house power. An onboard 3-stage charger provides maintanance free, automatic charging. The boat has a cruising speed of 5 knots with 5 hours of motoring from full to 50% charge.
